Five Simple Techniques for Making Your Bathroom Appear Larger for Selling

While using a professional stager offers the best results, unfortunately can also come with an expensive price tag you weren’t budgeting. Thankfully, with a little bit of understanding and do-it-yourself experience you can help stage your home for buyers – without needing to pay for a professional.

Here are five techniques to help your bathroom appear larger than they are:

Get rid of clutter

Individuals looking to purchase a home want to see how large a home can be – having clutter throughout the bathroom makes the space feel tight and inefficient in terms of storage. By removing everything from the bathroom (including any countertop items like toothpaste) you’ll offer a larger “view” of the entire space.

Add decorative items throughout

Many people fail to decorate their bathroom, yet adding a few modern images can go a long way in terms of the eye’s focus. Keep the pictures or images plain and simple, and use straight lines and edges to bring sight-lines up.

Paint the space a neutral colour

Keep your personal preference out of the paint selection and opt for a light, airy paint color for the bathroom. A light color will reflect the natural lighting more than a darker color will, which can help add a bright cheery feel to the space.

Stage the room to invite guests in

Think of the last luxury bathroom you went into (or one that you would love to walk in to). Add those items to your bathroom to create a warm and inviting space. Consider adding thick, plush towels to the towel bar and add high-end soaps to the dish. Remember, space is half physical square-footage and half design.

Keep the bathroom pristine and clean

The bathroom is often neglected when it comes to cleaning, but you need to make sure that the space is presentable at all times. Wipe down the countertops and mirrors after every use; wipe down the toilet every evening (or every other evening) to make sure there is no dirty or unmentionable items visible.

It’s also important to remember that prospective home owners are going to be looking in the linen closet and drawers in your bathroom too – so clear out any clutter you have under the sink too. If you’re not sure what needs to leave, only keep the items you’ll use on a daily basis.
